It’s a shame that Sharon has gone to his grave without facing justice for his role in Sabra and Shatilla and other abuses. . His passing is another grim reminder that years of virtual impunity for rights abuses have done nothing to bring Israeli-Palestinian peace any closer.
Sarah Leah Whitson, Middle East and North Africa director

(Jerusalem) – Ariel Sharon died without facing justice for his role in the massacres of hundreds and perhaps thousands of civilians by Lebanese militias in the Sabra and Shatilla refugee camps in Lebanon in 1982. The killings Verder lezen

Statement Bradley Manning/”Somtimes you have to pay a heavy price to live in a free society”

SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO PAY A HEAVY PRICE TO LIVE IN A FREE SOCIETY

The following is a transcript of the statement made by Pfc. Bradley Manning as read by David Coombs at a press conference on Wednesday after Manning was sentenced to 35 years in prison.

WATCH VIDEO OF COOMBS STATEMENT HERE

The decisions that I made in 2010 were made out of a concern for my country and the world that we live in. Since the tragic events of 9/11, our country has been at war. We’ve been at war with an enemy that chooses not to meet us on any traditional battlefield, and due to this fact we’ve had to alter our methods of combating the risks posed to us and our way of life.

THE SADDAM HUSSEIN TRIAL AND THE RIGHT OF ANY HUMAN BEING TO A FAIR TRIAL

by Astrid Essed Saturday, Nov. 18, 2006 at 7:57 AM

Not only I object the imposed death-penalty on the former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein and two co-accused, also the trial itself didn’t meet the international standards regarding a fair trial

DISASTER OVER PALESTINE/THE REFUGEE PROBLEM AND THE IDEOLOGY OF TRANSFER

by Astrid Essed Wednesday, Jun. 27, 2007 at 3:03 AM

In contrary with the allegations of zionist non-deniers, the expulsion of the Palestinians in 1948 and 1967 was no ad hoc war-crime, but a yearlong deliberate planned strategy

BLOCKADE ON GAZA/CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY

by Astrid Essed Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2008 at 2:44 PM

With the whole or partly blockade on Gaza, the Israeli authorities are guilty of crimes against humanity

No electricity, people are going hungry, no bread, and no medicine and lots of things that are missing. people are out in the streets now calling for the world to end the starvation and siege. It might be that people’s only option is to break out the borderline and go to Egypt and get food. It’s scary here. no bread, no water at home where I am. I have some leftovers biscuits from two days ago. but my laptop batteries will be flat soon. I will find a new agency from those who have electricity generators to recharge my laptop and keep online, if you don’t hear from me this is why. Again, I fear Israeli warplanes will bomb the people in the streets. people are in lines trying to find bread. I never seen this in all my 23 years life!´ Mohammed Omer”Only prompt, innovative and courageous political action can change the harsh reality of this long-standing occupation, restore normal social and economic life to the Palestinian people, and allow them to live their lives in dignity ”

HAMAS, FROM ISLAMIC REVIVAL MOVEMENT TO PALESTINIAN GOVERNMENT

by Astrid Essed Tuesday, Jul. 18, 2006 at 7:06 AM

In contary with the leading opinions of the American-European politicians and media, the aim of Hamas, calling by them the ”distruction” of the State of Israel, is not to kill or expell the Israeli-Jewish population, but to dismantle the zionistic State Model and to make an end to 39 year Israeli occupation and settlementspolicy

THE 60TH ANNIVERSARY OF ISRAEL/NOTHING TO CELEBRATE

by Astrid Essed Wednesday, May. 14, 2008 at 5:34 PM

In contrary to the outburst of festivities among zionists and their adherents, regarding the ´´celebration´´ of the 60th anniversary of the State of Israel, for the Palestinian victims of the etnic cleansings in 1948 and 1967 and the continuing occupation, there is nothing to celebrate Remember the Naqba

by Astrid Essed Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009 at 8:43 AM

By their unlawful and systematic character, combined with the blockade of Gaza, housedemolitions and extrajudicial executions, the Israeli attacks on Gaza are a dirty war against the Palestinian civilian population

WESTERN DIPLOMATS WALK OUT OF AHMADINEJAD SPEECH AT DURBAN II/HYPOCRISY AND VIOLATIONS

OF HUMAN RIGHTS

by Astrid Essed Friday, May. 01, 2009 at 1:18 PM

Not only the Western boycott of Durban II and the attitude on the Ahmadinejad speech lacks a fundamental respect for fundamental human rights, it is also hypocritical seeing in the light of her implicite support for the Israeli regime of occupation, letting get Israel away with human rights violations and war-crimes
