Yes, Edward likely neglected his wife.
I will explain below what lead to my repeated statement about the
neglection of Isabella by her husband King  Edward II,
since I had already answered this  in my last article.
BUT FIRST THIS:
Yesterday I travelled with you to the past, writing about
And coming back to 2015, I have a need to travel to
Edward’s time again.
Accompany me and enter the world.

 

 

 

Being fascinating by the period of Edward II, as by
writer of the book ”Edward II, an Unconventional
King” and having a very interesting Blog, ”Edwardthe
secondBlogspot”, in which I have found many
interesting facts for writing my article.
To my amazement and honour I just posted
my comment or I got an interesting reaction
on a following sentence in my article
was:

neglection [which I call it when a man so obviously chooses
for favourites, not only politically, but also emotionally].” Couldn’t disagree more. Why do you think that because Edward had ‘favourites’ that necessarily means he neglected his wife?”

Now to me it is an obvious form of neglection
[without giving a moral condemnation, understanding
the emotional problems of Edward II, being attracted to
granting them that much power, that they forbid
That’s called emotional and formal neglection,
since the wife [here Isabella] is not only
emotionally deprived [her husband deeply involved 
with another], but also formal by not having access
to her husband alone, so neglecting her political
position as a Queen and daughter to a King. 
 
 
It gives you and me an insight to the relationship
of Edward II and Isabella, who both must have suffered
on their own way.
Isabella because of the painful neglection in her
marriage.
Edward, because he was not free for the world
to follow his deepest emotions.

I will try to explain my point of view about
the neglection of Edward II of his wife Isabella:
ARGUMENTS FOR EDWARDS NEGLECTION

I don’t write things ”out of the blue”, but
base myself not on my own assumptions, but
on historical facts and sources, as
you can see of my notes in my articles

NOT JUST ”FAVOURITES”
You are right, that having ”favourites” doesn’t necessarily
means, that Edward neglected his wife.
But not only they weren’t ”just favourites”, facts
show, Edward has likely neglected his wife:
Favourites and facts, which show the neglection:
As I said:
They were not just ”favourites”, but especially
in the case of Piers Gaveston it was a
deep and [supposedly] sexual relationship, which
excludes a good and lasting relationship with his wife.
See Edward II’s odd behaviour during the coronation dinner.
promising nothing good.
Well, in my book, hanging to the wall  tapestries, bearing
the arms of Piers, and at the other side your [Edward’s]
own, as if Piers were Edward’s consort, as neglecting your new bride during the
coronation dinner, only talking to Piers [which naturally
grieved Isabella’s uncles]  is one thing and could be an accident.
 
BUT THAT WAS NOT ALL:
 
After Piers tragic death [and after passing some
other favourites] Edward had a deep and [probably] sexual relationship with
Despenser the Younger.
That’s another emotional neglection of his wife.
Apart from that, the Despensers
had great political power, which was that great,
that they didn’t allow
Isabella to see her husband alone and Edward apparently agreed with it.
I quote:
”They didn’t allow anyone access to Edward unless at least one of them was present – including, amazingly enough, Queen Isabella, who was not allowed to see her husband alone.”

That means that at that moment, Edward let others [Despensers]
treat his wife without respect, he neglected her, emotionally,

REVIEWING PIERS GAVESTON AND THE DESPENSERS:
Edward’s obssession with Piers [understandably, since
Edward felt deeply for him, long before Isabella set footh
on English ground] was great and as a consequence emotionally excluding
his wife.
And with the Despensers, it went only worse.
So, as well with Piers as the Despensers, Isabella was
emotionally and formally [no access to her husband unless one
of the Despensers were present] neglected.
When that’s no ”neglect”, dictionary must give a new definition.
EPILOGUE:
You must understand that this ”neglect” is no moral
condemnation of Edward II’s behaviour.
Of course it was undeserved and unpleasant for
Isabella, but as I wrote, Edward was a tragical King, since
he deeply felt for his own sex and had he lived in
other times, he probably had had a lasting love
affair with Piers Gaveston
I wrote about that
”Sometimes I wonder if Edward rather had died that fatal
day his beloved Piers Gaveston lost his life………….”
